Fla-Ga? Ga-Fla? Here’s what you need to know for the big game in Jacksonville

The RVs will be here any minute now and, before you know it, the streets of downtown Jacksonville will be flooded with red-and-black or orange-and-blue as Bulldog and Gator fans arrive for one of college football’s great traditions.

Florida and Georgia have been facing off in Jacksonville since 1933 (except for World War II and a pair of games in the mid-’90s when the stadium was being rebuilt). There have been blowouts and nail-biters, a tie and some genuine classics in there. Georgia, the defending national champions, won last year’s game, 34-7.

Is it Georgia-Florida or Florida-Georgia this year?

The Georgia Bulldogs are the home team this year and its fans will sit on the west side of the stadium, so it’s the Georgia-Florida game. Because it’s a neutral-site game, the teams alternate each year and the name of the event flip-flops.
